Director's Letter

Dr.Javier Duran

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

We are proud to share some of the highlights and accomplishments of the Confluencenter for Creative Inquiry’s first six years of successful operation.

We recently completed our first institutional review and are very pleased with the recommendations we received from a committee of internal and external reviewers. You can view both reports online at: Confluencenter Self-Study Report and External Evaluation Report.

Since 2010, we have proudly fulfilled our goals of building a physical and intellectual home for interdisciplinary and collaborative research in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.  During this time, the center has supported nearly 300 projects and distributed nearly $2.4 million to faculty, students, and other campus units to advance scholarly inquiry and bring it to the Tucson community and beyond.  This seed funding has facilitated an additional $7.6 million in external funding for new or expanded projects through the University.

With respect to these achievements, we are enthusiastic about the next period of Confluenceter’s growth and development.  A diverse Task Force of faculty, administrators, and community representatives will help us develop a strategic plan for the next phase of operations.  This exercise will identify future research priorities and determine creative directions that we hope to begin implementing during 2018.

Going forward, the Confluencenter will continue to build on its unique ability to engage faculty and students with diverse interests, and encourage them to work together to generate new, creative ideas and projects that enhance the lives of people in our community and the world, and to take this scholarly knowledge from campus out to the community in distinct, interesting, and engaging ways that encourage learning and participation.

We will continue with our efforts to make the University of Arizona a more collaborative and diverse environment.  In doing so, we hope that you will continue to support the Confluencenter as a donor, researcher, collaborator, or friend.  Many thanks for your continued interest and collaboration.

Sincerely,

Javier Duran, PhD
